more than the view
at the river’s edge
The expansive views of Preservation’s Riverfront capture the raw beauty of life on the coast and sets River Dunes apart in the region. Nowhere else can you find this view, these boating grounds and a place where water means so much to so many. From the fresh water upstream to the Gulf Stream offshore; the water runs through River Dunes and becomes a part of the family story for all those who settle here.
One of the oldest rivers in the continental US, The Neuse, derived from the Native American Neusiok tribe, translates as “peace” and there’s none greater than the broad calm expanse of the Neuse. Find yours in Preservation.
The Pamlico Sound, a broad expanse of horizon, dotted with recreational boaters, working watermen and seabirds, separates River Dunes from the beaches of the Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island.
Discovered in 1524, the Sound has long been a source of rich fisheries, shellfish, waterfowl and a primary coastal nursery. It’s the second largest on the East Coast, some 21 miles wide and nearly 80 miles long.
