More than a View
The pace is a little slower at the edge of the River. You’ll watch tarpon roll at sunrise, porpoises meander through balls of bait and lazy herons pluck along the marshline. Across the river, a steady parade of boats travel along the Intracoastal and on the horizon, fishermen ply the famed fishing grounds at the mouth of the Sound.
The setting
Buffering these seven unique waterfront homesites, Gum Thicket Creek winds to the river’s edge. Spartina salt marsh and stately pines frame the endless water while the careful guidance of the Community’s covenants and architectural guidelines frame the future of this place. A 238-acre conservation easement, permanently protects the headwaters of the creek and the nature-lined entrance to the neighborhood.

The Pamlico Sound, a broad expanse of horizon, dotted with recreational boaters, working watermen and seabirds, separates River Dunes from the beaches of the Outer Banks and Ocracoke Island.
Discovered in 1524, the Sound has long been a source of rich fisheries, shellfish, waterfowl and a primary coastal nursery. It’s the second largest on the East Coast, some 21 miles wide and nearly 80 miles long.
